In the clouds

Waiting for a mission trip to begin often feels like waiting for Christmas to get here. You know months in advance what the date is. You begin to prepare. Little by little, more and more of your thoughts, time, and efforts each day are spent getting ready. The anticipation builds and then the day of departure is finally here and you are off! Except rule number one of mission trips, be flexible, showed up before my 3 am alarm could go off. Our first flight, that was for the group out of Florida, was delayed 3 hours. The good news was we met 3 hours later so I could go back to sleep. After the delay we were up in the clouds and on our way. We made our connection in Miami and flew on to Honduras. The flights were great. We landed on time and proceed through immigration and customs. Immigrations went smoothly. We had no issues with any of our covid forms and were off to customs. That is where that flexibility thing showed up again. An hour later, after a timely group prayer and the excellent translating ability of Shaula, we were out to the waiting bus. On our way to the hotel we got to see the beautiful mountainous landscapes of Honduras. As our bus got close to the hotel we kept going uphill, so much so that when we arrived we were back in the clouds. What a fitting way for our first day to be spent, in the clouds as we prepare to do God's work.
